Rob focuses on evaluating possible new investments and monitoring existing investments. He is chairman of the board of Par Pacific Holdings, Inc., an owner and operator of market-leading energy and infrastructure businesses in refining, retail, and energy logistics. He was also a member and lead independent director of the board of one of EGI’s former portfolio companies, Covanta Holding Corporation, an international owner/operator of energy-from-waste and power generation facilities.
Rob joined EGI in 2014 with more than 25 years of leadership experience in the private and public sectors. He was chairman and CEO of Strategic Education, Inc., from 2001 to 2013 and has been its executive chairman since 2013. Earlier in his career he held a variety of senior management positions, including president and chief operating officer at CalEnergy Company, Inc., and assistant to the chairman and chief executive officer of International Paper Company. He served as the U.S. Assistant Secretary of the Army under George H.W. Bush and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Rob earned a master’s in international policy from Johns Hopkins University and a BA in history from Dartmouth College.
